With or Without You.

The other day I went to daily mass. It's a rare occurrence for me to go to daily mass, even though it shouldn't be (that's a another story for another time), but a friend asked me to act ask as Extraordinary Minister, so I went. I was immediately distracted by the sweetest family two pews in front of me: a mom with her three daughters. The youngest daughter, who I'd say was four or five, was sitting on her older sister's lap. The little girl kept trying to braid her hair and failing. Her older sister braided it for her, and when she had finished, the littlest girl felt it. Seemingly dissatisfied with her sister's work, she unbraided it and tried to do it again on her own.

With that, I saw my relationship with God.

Whenever I fail at something, He comes in and tries to fix it. And most of the time, I don't like the way His plans work. Sometimes they're too hard, or too unpredictable, or oftentimes, I'm simply annoyed because it wasn't my plan.

Coming to Mount Saint Mary's wasn't my first choice. In fact, it was at the very bottom of my list of schools. So when things didn't work out with Franciscan, Christendom, and the Catholic University of America, I 'resigned' myself to the Mount, because I simply thought I didn't have another choice.

Now that I'm finishing up my junior year, I know that me coming here was all a part of His divine plan for me. And one day, I know that I'll look back, and see that each time I tried to do something, and God took over, it was to create something much more beautiful than I could ever imagine.

God has great plans for you. They're beautiful. And I know you will do so much to change the world.

Searching for Augustine

Last week, it was the feast of St. Monica. During the day, a family friend posted the link to this video on Facebook. I thought it was nice and everything, and went on with my day.

That night, I went to daily mass on campus, and the chaplain preached about Saint Monica and how her persevering prayer was responsible for the conversion of her son, Augustine.

Sound familiar? It did to me. Especially since I had recently decided to give up praying for a special intention, because nothing seemed to be happening.

In our lives, we all have "Augustines", people we pray for, but who don't seem to change, or who God doesn't seem to answer any prayers about. I know I have. And I know I've almost given up on them. Thank God that Monica, because of her maternal love, didn't give up on Augustine!

We are all called to be like Saint Monica, to pray and trust, even when God seems to be too busy doing something else. Find your Augustine, and pray like a Monica. God prevails.
